once I'd taken photos of the runners heading away from Arkendale, I wanted to get across to the end of the Moor and photograph everyone running towards me. Although it says Arkendale Moor on the map, it doesn't look very heather, gorse and Heathcliffey to me but I'm from the East Riding so what would I know?!! it was a nice stroll down the hill but once I got past the trees it was pretty heavy going, especially carrying my cameras, but the main thing was that I was able to get there before the runners . . and it wasn't long before the leading trio came into view, running towards us down the slope, and then following the markers across the swamp . . and this is when the sheep began to take an interest . . you hope they were joining in, rather than being spooked by the runners passing through them, and certainly the way they kept coming back and rushing across the path every now and again seemed to confirm this . . how come they don't trip up when they do this? finally, the sheep had had enough of taunting the runners, and disappeared, in single file, around the edge of the field to find pastures new . . and then it wasn't so long before everyone had passed by, and we could return to Sunnyside Farm . . and we got there just in time to see the final runner finish, clearly in absolute agony from an injury, and it was great to see that her clubmates from Ripon had waited and were there to take care of her as she crossed the line . . |
